On Friday 26th July our team hosted a Head and Neck cancer awareness pop-up event in the courtyard of St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. Whilst it was a cold winter's afternoon, with some rain, it did not deter the crowds or the conversations about Head and Neck cancer.
In the lead up to the event, Surgeons, a Radiation Oncologist, a Speech Pathologist and Dietitian were profiled on St. Vincent's social media highlighting Head and Neck cancer facts and commenting on why working in this area was important to them.
The highlights of the awareness pop-up event included;
- A doughnut van serving 2000 free hot jam doughnuts!
- Gifting people with lolly bags at the various trade stalls
- Having staff available to answer questions and promote conversation with visitors, patients and hospital staff inquiring about Head and Neck cancer, treatment, products and equipment on display at the trade stalls
- Having creative nurses design cigarette packets that were worn by staff
